Introductions and Indoctrination

It’s always good to have a post to throw introductions in, though most will be coming from locals, many may come from elsewhere. Indoctrination is in the post title because I find it funny and there is a character limit for post titles. So I’ll start…

Tim aka ChowWi… General computer nerd, jack of all trades master of none type. I meddle with code barely, I used to be a chronic distro hopper, I’ve had minor contributions to Ubuntu Mate back in it’s creation days and ArchLabs which is no longer out there. I’m also into security, privacy, and all those things that make tinfoil hats tingle.

I’m open to helping out or just talking smack.

Good thinking. I’m Dan, chief editor of The Retro Millennial over on Substack, as well as a few other smaller publications. I’ve been a Linux user for almost 15 years now (8 of those as a daily driver desktop system) and have been a lifetime member of the Lunduke Journal Community for 4 or 5 years now. I work in IT doing network tech work, do a bit of scripting (primarily in BASH and PowerShell) and am a documentation and technical writing guy.

This will be my first distro actually doing any real contributing and I’m looking forward working with you all!

I’m the Geek on Skates, also a lifetime member of the Lunduke Journal community on Locals, and I’m a programmer (favorite languages are C and Forth). I code retro stuff, command-line stuff, a game or two, and a whole lot of shell scripts in Forth or PHP. I mostly just like to mess around with code in general. Programming is also my day job, which keeps me hopping, but I do hope to contribute to the Lunduke Computer OS in some small way.

I’m Kyle (nullman), a lifetime member. I’ve been coding since I was 13 (on an Apple II at my Jr High) and made a career out of it. I’m comfortable coding in: BASH, Perl, Ruby, Java, Kotlin, Javascript/HTML/CSS, Scheme (Racket), Common Lisp, Emacs Lisp, SQL, and C – but my C skills are very rusty.

I am Greg. A lifetime member.

I’ve been in IT since 1988. I’ve done just about everything you can think of: mainframe computer operator, desktop tech support, network administration, mainframe systems automation, distributed systems monitoring and automation, web development and administration, software development, software testing, and now I’m doing software development in test (SDET), mainly on API testing, and web end-to-end testing (Selenium, Playwright, Cypress, etc)

My most favourite programming languages are Python, Java, and bash (in that order), but I dabble from time to time in C#, Go, C, and C++ (and “V”).

My least favorite programming languages are Scala (used in Gatling), Javascript, and Ruby.

The first languages I cut my teeth on in tech: IBM REXX, and Perl. I still have an abiding love for both of them. Though, it’s difficult to make a business case for their use anymore.

As for this particular project, I can offer:

  • Technical / analytical writing skills.
  • Bash scripting.
  • Package build testing.
  • Python scripting.
  • distro testing.
  • Pessimism.
  • Sarcasm.

I’m Doug, live in the PNW for too long now and been “into” computers since sometime in the very early '80s when I was a kid and a bit later “into” electronics, a bit of (computer) networking, recently HAM radio and (live) sound engineering and so forth. TRS-80’s, 99/4a … when had access to them at school or relatives… but cut teeth at programming when parents got a VIC-20 for home (BASIC and limited 6502 assembler).

Maintaining and developing code for websites for a community college pays the bills. But if something much better came along…

Have experience in a handful of languages C/C++, PHP, Java/Javascript (any C-like w/ curly braces is strongly preferred) and use them somewhat often. Some experience with PIC microcontrollers (even PIC assembler, when only 35 instructions not much to learn), Pico Pi and got hands on a RISCV based MCU.

Have contributed to a few open source projects, reported bugs and have tested a few Linux patches (USB 3.0 hub bugs when USB 3 was super new and USB audio related bugs).

I have my father to thank for much of what I am (recently passed in Jan 2024) as he too was into computers when they were often connected to the math departments at colleges instead of it’s own category.

Hello. I’m Edward. I’m a member of Lunduke’s Locals and a programmer from the PNW.

I mostly write C, but I can, allowing a short spin-up time, write whatever.

If it turns out that this project is a good fit for me, and vice-versa, I can contribute to testing, document writing, and programming. I’d also be happy to discuss design.

Hi there,

Dragontorch here (guess where the username comes from).

I have been in the embedded programming for ~30years (or more).

Since the times of the Junior Computer, Spectrum, and some oldies that I could only afford to look at from a distance (pdp11, etc.) to the present day.

Played with linux since Slackware started to pop around.

Happy to work in LCOS if there is still something that has not been taken.

Good expertise in Bash, Tcl, Make (GNU), sed, C, assembler (standalone and inlined). A bit rusty in C++, python, … Good interest in forth (I guess that is like moaning for the VHS2000 or the MacOS9, but there you go).

Cheers

I’m Mike “Sohl”. Lifetime member of Lunduke locals. Professional automotive software researcher. C / C++ / Assembler / Forth programmer, even some Python and of course BASIC back in the day. Atari 2600 programmer with a published boxed game. Alternative OS enthusiast. Amateur CPU designer in VHDL. C64 user since the 80s. Windows user since the early 90s. LInux user since the early 2000s.

I’ve completed Linux from Scratch (first book) in the past year. I have contributed to Tiny Core Linux desktop software with some modifications to FLWM and some optional apps in the TC Extensions repo about ten years ago. I’ve played with many Linux distros, a few BSDs, and several alternative OSes like Plan9 and Menuet. I’ve installed Devuan recently and like it!

I can program enough BASH to get by, but I’m not a deep expert in it. Willing to help wherever in LCOS. I can at least help draft or review documentation or test releases. If C/C++ based code needs some modifications, I should be able to help. I’m not a designer but I think I have fairly good “taste” and willing to review draft graphics, UI layouts, etc. and provide feedback.

Looking forward to where this goes.

I am a lifetime member under a different name. I am into privacy. I do inherited any code from 1968 to 1972 I was an electronics repair technition in the airforce. I am a generalist as I am interested in too many areas I use linux as I like privacy and apple and windows do not have that. I like hardware but it does nothing without siftware.

If I can help I am willing I just do not like the "woke " thing.

My name is Kevin. I follow Lunduke’s content. I enjoy running Linux at home and [as much as I can finagle] at work. I rely on documentation a lot while I code but do program basically everyday personally and/or professionally (as a data analyst/data scientist.) Mostly python but bash comes up too (i.e a homegrown CI pipeline for ‘the big app’ at work.)
I’d love to contribute but I know a lot of this will be new to me- especially in the early stages. I will say, I am a quick study, I could and would write unit tests. I could and would write docs too. I love the premise of the project and will try and keep up!
